Training

Volunteer Service and Support Nepal (VSSN) organizes trainings, including various components that help to identify what the volunteers need to be effective in their placements as well as the needs of placement areas and target groups. Thus, the various available areas of training are as follows:

Nepali Language and Cultural Classes:
This training will enable volunteers to better communicate with their Nepali teachers, students, host families and other target groups. The language course will be provided according to duration of the volunteers work in Nepal; however, all volunteers will undergo an immediate intensive language course. VSSN has developed its own curriculum book which will be followed during language and culture training. Lesson plans will be prepared according to the volunteers immediate need and interest. We have specific lesson plans for health students and volunteers. Usually, culture training and survival guidance is provided by more than one trainer, and they are male female both. These trainings are very important to adopt Nepali life smoothly.

Teaching skills

To prepare you to start teaching, we provide you few days 'class observation', volunteers will get a chance to observe regular classes which are followed by Nepali teachers. This enables volunteers to become friendly and feel comfortable with school staffs, class teachers and with the students.

Technology and Construction Training

For volunteer groups coming specifically for the construction program, VSSN can provide such training in such areas as, pit latrines, smokeless stoves, water filters, kitchen gardening, soak pits, and solar energy devices. The courses are based on Appropriate Rural Technologies (ART), which is acceptable and affordable for the rural communities.

The training will take place in 2 phases:

Pre-placement training and mid-term training. All the volunteers will undergo the first phase of training before they go to their respective placement areas.
