VOLUNTEER SERVICE AND SUPPORT NEPAL
Teaching in Monastery:
In this program volunteers will teach English to the monks at the monasteries. Volunteers especially who are interested in Buddhist culture and religion may join this program, volunteers will stay near the monastery or in the monastery for a period of three months or more. Volunteers go everyday to run English practice classes to the novice monks; children and adults both may participate in the class. VSSN can provide longer and shorter stays upon request; however, one month teaching is minimum requirement. Volunteers will teach English to the monks, both young and old, for around 1 to 2 hours every day. Volunteers will also help local school 1 to 2 hours each day, in total volunteers will be teaching 2 to 4 hours a day.

VSSN will arrange an intensive
meditation course (this practice course is for those who are interested
to meditate), as well as field-trips to Hindu and Buddhist holy sites,
will be included in this two-month program.
During the first 3-4 days, volunteer will take
language/culture classes, orientation about program and travel
information as well as teacher training in Kathmandu. During that time,
volunteers will visit holy sites around the Kathmandu Valley. After
training, volunteers will be placed in the host family near to the
monastery or volunteers may stay in a guest house near the monastery.
VSSN also can arrange a trip to Lumbini, Lumbini is Buddha's birth place
and peaceful area in the south of Nepal and home to both Theravadan and
Tibetan monasteries. This program combines religious research, through
an experiential approach, with volunteer English teaching. Due to the
fact that the monks spend their lives inside the monastery, this program
provides them with the amazing opportunity to learn English, as well as
experience another culture, from an international volunteer.
Program fee: One month Euros 600 and each extra additional
week Euros 100. This fee also includes donation for the monastery.
