VSSN  is always aware about making volunteers' safe, good and economy journey while they are in the country. You could participate trekking/tour after or before you do volunteering. Everest Trekking:

This is the second popular trekking in Nepal with the high efficiency and competitive facilities of lodges and resorts and lies in the eastern part of Nepal. During the trekking anyone can enjoy the breathtaking view of Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha – Nepali name) along with Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Pumari, Thamserku, Amadablam etc. It is the land of Sherpas. Broken into deep gorges and glacial valleys. The trekking area is covered by Sagarmatha National Park and the total area measured for this park is 1148 sq km. The area has vegetation graduating from pine, hemlock, fir, juniper, birch, rhododendrons and shrubs to alpine plants and then to bare rock and snow. The area is home to the Himalayan tahr, ghoral, serow and musk deer. Common birds are the impeyan, pheasant, blood pheasant, red-billed cough and the yellow-billed cough. Elevation ranges from 2845 – 8848 m. Trekking in this region starts either form Jiri or from Lukla (50 mins airtrip from Kathmandu). Some of the popular trekking in this area is listed below:

•    Jiri to Everest Base camp and fly out from Lukla: 18-22 days

•    Jiri to Everest Base camp and out from Jiri: 28 – 32 days

•    Everest Camp (fly in and out): 10-14 days

•    Everst base camp with Gokyo (fly in and out): 15-20 days

•    Gokyo trek (fly in and out): 8-12 days


Annapurna Trekking

This is the most popular trekking route in Nepal. This is popular with stunning views of Himalayas, diversion cultural people, pilgrimage sites, field terraces, gorges and with different types of flora and faunas. Trek in this region starts either form Besishahar or from Pokhara. This region offers moderate to rigorous treks depending upon the adventurous desire of the trekkers. Here anyone can make trekking as per their time frame.

In this region lies the deepest gorge in the world. The area is dominated by Annapurna I 8091 m the 10th highest in the world, Schema and chestnut trees are found in the subtropical forest between 1000-2000 m which give way to rhododendron flower, oak, hemlock and silver fir as you ascend to the temperate zone (1700 – 3000 m). Rhesus monkeys, yellow-throated martens & Himalayan weasels are some of the wildlife commonly encountered. Gurung, Magar, Thakali & Brahmin villages dot the lower elevations. The Tibetan cultural influence becomes stronger as you go to the north. The most popular destinations for this area are:

•    Annapurna Sanctuary (ABC) 12-14 days

•    Jomsom Trek 10-12 days

•    Poonhill Trek 5-7 days

•    Dhampus – Sarangkot Trek 3 days

•    Tatopani (Natural Hot Spring) Trek 5 days


Langtang Trekking

This is one of the popular trekking destinations of Nepal as well as this area lies to the north of Kathmandu. Mainly the trekking area is covered by Langtang National Park and the total area designated for this park is 1710 sq km that encompasses high mountains and high Himalaya terrain. About one fourth of the park is forest – oaks, maple, rhododendron, chir pine, fir blue pine, hemlock and spruce. The holy Gosaiankunda Lake is situated here. The animal found here are the wild dog, Himalayan red panda, pika, muntjack, musk deer, Himalayan black beer, Himalayan tahr, ghoral, serow, rhesus monkey and the common langur. This region is also an important route for migratory birds. The majority of the local inhabitants here are Tamangs and Sherpas. The most popular destinations for this area are:

•    Langtang-Gosainkunda-Helambu trekking: 18-24 days
•    Langtang trekking: 08-12 days
•    Gosainkunda trekking: 10-14 days
•    Helambu trekking: 06-10 days


Jungle Safari in Nepal
Chitwan National Park

The Chitwan National Park (CNP) is the first and most famous wildlife destination of Nepal. It is situated at the southern part of Kathmandu at the distance of about 170 KM. It is about 6 hrs bus ride and 15 mins. flight from capital. The total area of this park is measured as 932 sq. KM. The park includes hilly areas of the Siwalik range covered by deciduous sal forest and captured with grass, savannah and riverine vegetation. The park is made up of the flood plains of the Narayani, Rapti and Reu rivers.
In between these landscape and area any one can enjoy the different spices of endangered wildlife such as Asian one horned rhinoceros and Royal Bengal tigers, four different spices of deer, leopards, langurs, sloth bears, wild boars, rhesus monkeys, wild dogs, white stocking gaurs and many other smaller animals. Two different type of crocodiles Ghariyal and marsh mugger cavort in the river water. This park is also famous as bird watchers paradise with more than 450 different spices of regular and migrant birds including cormorants, egrets, stork geese, jingle fowl, king fishers and endangered spices such as Bengal florician, Lesser florician, Brahmin, duck, pintails, Indian pitta and parakeets.

Rafting in Nepal

White water rafting means crushing down a gusting and meandering river in an inflatable rubber raft or white water kayak over crashing waves and swirling rapids for the excitement of a lifetime. Nepal has earned a reputation as one of the best destinations in the world for white water rafting. Nepal’s thundering and foaming waters, coming from the glaciers of the mighty Himalayas, provide unmatched thrills for rafting and immersing oneself in the varied and unmatched landscape. A rafting trip is bound to the highlight of your stay in Nepal.
Rivers are graded in a scale of one to five, with one being a swimming pool. Four is considered to be quite challenging without being exceedingly dangerous to the novice rafter. Five requires some previous and challenging experience.
