VSSN PROGRAMS

VSSN volunteer program offers a unique opportunity for interested individuals, couples, groups and organisations to make a contribution to Nepali society, while simultaneously experiencing the rich culture, natural splendor, and daily life of Nepal, one of the most beautiful countries of the world. The degree to which volunteers contribute to Nepali communities varies according to motivation and personal capacity; however, no experience is necessary and VSSN strongly encourages all applicants. In fact, we only have two requirements for our volunteers: (1) a positive outlook and (2) a strong desire to help. All volunteers will enjoy a unique opportunity for travel, adventure, and exploration (geographical and self-exploration). Every year, a large number of international volunteers join VSSN Volunteers Program and return home with everlasting memories.

The mission and objective of the VSSN Volunteer Program is to encourage and invite International/ National volunteers to contribute to the rural community development, education development, and health and enviromental activities of the Nepali people. In addition, we intend to enhance the feeling of voluntary, global brotherhood among the people. Our program promotes the opportunity for the worlds’ individuals to build a mutual friendship and global partnership. It is our belief, that through hard-work and positive thinking, we can all help to improve cultural tolerance and encourage world peace. Volunteers will experience life in Nepal firsthand, working alongside Nepali people to help support communities in rural Nepal. In this way they will be making a meaningful contribution to a disadvantaged segment of the world community, while participating in an exchange of ideas and viewpoints with the local people who will ultimately be responsible for sustainable development.

PROGRAM AIM

The VSSN Volunteer Program aims to help children, youth, and women in various underdeveloped communities, using rural government schools and community based programs (created with the help of VSSN, volunteers, and local citizens) as mediums for contact, resources, and project development, concentrating on raising awareness of social, educational, basic health and sanitation, and conservation issues. The development process itself is relatively slow, despite the efforts of the government and rural NGOs. This fact makes the need for motivated volunteers even greater. Few villages in Nepal have basic sanitation facilities and, as a result, basic health problems such as malnutrition and water born diseases are widespread. Thus volunteers play a key role in enabling students, young people, community women, and other members of society to address these issues as best they can within their capacity.

Volunteers will take-part in forming sustainable self-help groups, such as youth groups, student groups, and women’s groups, and will work very closely with partner NGOs, who are already working in the field on specific issues, utilizing their expertise and experience. Volunteering abroad is also important for personal growth and development, and can provide a sense of individual freedom at a significant time in a person’s academic and personal life. For these reasons, volunteering in Nepal, especially in rural Nepal, can be a once in a lifetime opportunity. It is fun, challenging, and adventurous, but throughout your placement you will enjoy the support of our highly experienced staff at VSSN, who are dedicated to ensuring the well being of all volunteers.
